Wk 4 – Reading Lesson Plan and Reflection [due Mon] Assignment Instructions For this assignment, you will be creating a lesson plan and writing a reflective essay. You will develop your lesson plan for a grade level of your choice in the Gentry School District. Take into consideration the following information about the school district:

Gentry School District has a population of 850 students in grades PreK–12 and is located in the suburbs of Houston. Despite its location in a rather prosperous community, the Gentry School District is considered a diverse school, with 55% of the population being Hispanic, 23% being African American, and the remaining 22% being a mixture of Anglo and Asian. The school district is diverse in respect to socioeconomics, special education status, and language learning.

Complete Parts 1 and 2 below.

Part 1: Lesson Plan Choose a grade level for your lesson plan. If you choose a secondary grade level (6th–12th grade), you may use literature or language arts as your subject area or design a reading lesson for a specific content area such as science or social studies. For an elementary grade level (K–5), design a reading lesson plan that could be taught during your language arts block.

Follow the steps below as you create your lesson plan:

  1. Choose an essential strategy for comprehending text that is appropriate for your selected grade level. Examples of essential strategies include comparing points of view, analyzing characters or arguments, sequencing events, retelling a story, drawing conclusions, using evidence to predict, summarizing plot or main idea, comparing characters or versions of stories, etc.
  2. Choose at least 1 standard for your lesson plan. If you are teaching in a content area, include 2 standards—1 standard from the specific content area and 1 from reading/ELA standards.
  3. Include 1 pre-assessment that you will use to evaluate students' prior knowledge.
  4. Choose learning tasks that support students in developing the essential strategy for comprehending text.
  5. Select 1 or more texts for the lesson that engage students with the essential strategy in meaningful contexts. Meaningful context means that students are engaged in texts that reflect their interests and experiences. Refer to the information provided about your school district at the beginning of this assignment
